Lieutenant Taylor Krabiel is a NOAA Corps Officer with a background in hydrographic operations, technology, and training. He holds a B.S. in Geology and Hydrogeology from the University of Nevada, Reno, and an M.S. in Geographic Information Systems from the University of Maryland. Before NOAA he was a High School teacher and still enjoys the thrill of teaching science. His career with NOAA has included leadership roles such as Operations Officer aboard NOAA Ship Fairweather, where he led hydrographic surveys in Alaska charting unmapped waters and even discovering a volcaolonic like feature in the Arctic. He also modernized NOAA's hydrographic training programs and co-developed the Crowd-Sourced Bathymetry (CSB) tool, an effort recognized with the SAME Colbert Medal. At his current billet with the Center of Excellence, he will apply his experience in hydrographic systems, data processing, and operational planning to support the Center's research and mapping initiatives. Outside of work, Taylor creates custom map art and enjoys watching old B movies, Scifi, hiking, and living life with his wife, Hannah, and their dog, Tessie.
