Australia
James Daniell completed his studies at CCOM in 2009. He then graduated with a PhD through the University of Sydney in 2010. His thesis was titled “Bedload transport on a tide dominated continental shelf, western Torres Strait, northern Australia”. Since then, he accepted a lecturing position at James Cook University in Townsville Australia where he teaches various aspects of marine geoscience to both undergraduates and postgraduates (http://www.jcu.edu.au/ees/staff/academic/JCU_098284.html).
His expertise includes oceanography, geomorphology, sedimentology, geophysics, remote sensing and GIS. His research, however, is more specifically focused on mapping the seabed using sonar to understand geological processes and the distribution of benthic habitats in both deep and shallow water environments. Areas of specific research currently include 1) lowstand sedimentary processes on barrier reef system, 2) using multivariate statistics to classify multibeam sonar angular response curves, 3) mapping the distributions and structure of ‘turbid-zone’ coral reefs
