Peyton Benson is a Physical Scientist with NOAA’s Center of Excellence for Operational Ocean and Great Lakes Mapping. He has a B.S. in Marine Science with a concentration in Physical Oceanography from Stockton University. Prior to joining NOAA in 2024, Peyton had previously worked as a hydrographic systems technician with ECHO81, as a contracted hydrographer and marine geologist with the Maine Coastal Program, and most recently served as the Lead Hydrographer for the State of Maine. His professional experience in hydrography has allowed him to develop skills in project planning and management, systems integration, data acquisition, data post-processing and analysis, technical troubleshooting, and training. At the Center of Excellence (CoE), Peyton works with both the technical and training teams, delivering remote and shipboard hydrographic support throughout the NOAA fleet, conducting QAT’s and SAT’s for NOAA mapping systems, providing operational and conceptual training to field units, and developing new hydrographic courses and curriculum. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, traveling, video games, and learning new skills.
