Hailey Gilman

Hailey Gilman is pursuing an M.S. in Ocean Engineering with a certificate in Ocean Mapping offered by the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping/Joint Hydrographic Center (CCOM/JHC). During her studies, she is employed as a research assistant in the Jere A. Chase Ocean Engineering Laboratory. Her assistantship work, under the guidance of Dr. Gabriel Venegas, focuses on acoustic scattering across biologically active fine-grained sediments.

Hailey comes to the University of New Hampshire with an undergraduate degree from Randolph College, a small liberal arts college in Central Virginia. Upon graduation in May of 2022, she received a B.S. in physics with minors in mathematics and music (flute performance). Between undergraduate and graduate studies, Hailey worked in scientific education and outreach within her alma mater’s physics department. When she is not in the lab or at her desk, she is likely gardening or finding other ways to enjoy the outdoors.
