Matthew Rowell
Research Vessel Captain
Matthew Rowell joined the CCOM staff in 2017 as the Captain of the R/V Gulf Surveyor. Matthew first came to the University of New Hampshire in 2011 to pursue his graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Hydrokinetic Energy. Upon completion of his Master’s degree, he filled a Research Project Engineering position at UNH in the Ocean Engineering Department and, in that capacity, was instrumental in the design and construction of the R/V Gulf Surveyor. Prior to UNH, Matthew studied mechanical engineering at Clarkson University and spent eight years as an officer in the US Navy studying surface warfare and nuclear power.
