Derick Hayne Petrus is from Papua New Guinea. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Land Surveying from the University of Technology, PNG. He spent the last ten years working with the National Charting Office, implementing and managing coastal hydrography survey projects for nautical charting, before being selected as a GEBCO Scholar to undertake the graduate certificate in ocean mapping.
