David Mosher is a Commissioner on the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf since 2017 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, a consultant marine geoscientist and expert in Law of the Sea continental shelf delineation, and a former professor at the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping at the University of New Hampshire. He recently retired as a senior research scientist with the Geological Survey of Canada. David graduated with a Ph.D. in geophysics from the Oceanography Department at Dalhousie University in 1993, following an MSc. in Earth Sciences from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1987 and a BSc at Acadia in 1983. His research focus has principally been the study of deep water margins in regard to marine geohazards using geophysical and geotechnical techniques. Since 2008, he has been heavily involved in extended continental shelf mapping and submission preparation for the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). David has participated in over 50 sea-going expeditions around the globe—including three times to the North Pole—and was chief scientist on 29 of them.
