Assignment 5. 2007. Due: October 29
Evaluating flow visualization methods.
Your task is to design and evaluate at least two different flow visualizations so as to determine which is most effective. As a design task your goal should be to represent the magnitude and the advection pathways so that they can be visually queried with a minimal error.
A good method may change one or two variables (e.g. density: length: width). A good experiment often shows the optimal value of a variable. Hint: try to go both sides of it.
To measure error magnitude subjects should select the correct box on the right hand side of the screen using the mouse.
To measure advection subjects should use the mouse to check where the path (from the center) crosses the outer circle.
You should only record data when crossing actually occurs.
(Other details to be given in class).
You should modify the source code you have been given to produce different rendering methods. You can use anything you like to analyze the data. E.g. a spreadsheet.
The write-up should in standard scientific format, although it can be brief – approximately 1200 words.
